Darwin is a beautiful city in Australia. It is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city located right on the edge of the Timor Sea providing picturesque sunsets and extraordinary backdrop. Darwin has grown from a pioneer outpost and small port into one of Australia's most modern and multidimensional cities housing various cultures from different parts of the world. Its proximity to Asia makes it an important Australian gateway to countries such as Indonesia and East Timor. The Stuart Highway begins in Darwin, ending at Port Augusta in South Australia.

There are plenty of things to do in Darwin City and it provides a pictorial view of life. The city is a place to enjoy international restaurants, visiting huge shopping malls, marinas, beachside casino, having a cold sip in cafes and much more to enjoy. It’s very interesting to roam about in Darwin as you can hire a car and move about to nearby destinations with ease. While traveling through Darwin you can find that Darwin International Airport and Royal Australian Air Force Base separate the older part of Darwin from the newer northern suburbs.

Darwin is a great holiday destination in its own way and a great gateway to Australian Outback. Darwin has a great history which is quite visible everywhere. Its location on a peninsula surrounded by water on three sides makes a great tropical lifestyle. Moreover, it has many attractions that keep you busy for a while. The city attracts itinerant workers and visitors from around Australia. It’s past and present twisted uniquely gives Darwin a human spirit touch.   

The best place to start is Top End Tourism, from where you get Darwin car hire to proceed to different locations. The main important places to visit are the Chinese Temple, where the local Buddhists, Taoists and Confucians still worship. If you move further from this place, you will come around the Old Ruins of the Town Hall and Brown’s Mart. It’s the oldest commercial building still standing and a very pretty and impressive reminder of the Darwin of the 19th Century. The Old Courthouse and Police Station is in the same area, so are the modern Parliament House and the Government House.

You can find the Australian Pearling Exhibition in Strokes Hill Wharf, where Indo Pacific Marine is also in-housed. This aquarium exhibits brilliant living coral formations is the most awarded attraction in the Northern Territory. The Wharf Precinct is a tourist development on Darwin Harbour. This is a great place for seafood, sunset drinks and fresco dining. This place is really awesome.

If you are planning to visit beach, pick up a rental car to get to the Marina at Cullen Bay, the Skycity Darwin Casino and then to Mindil Beach and Fanny Bay. The Botanical Gardens just opposite to this beach is worth visiting. You can visit Crocodylus Park just a little distance out of the city, which has not only crocodiles but also big cats, monkeys and more. Thus, there are many attractive places in and around Darwin, which you can enjoy by taking a rental car.
