Dental Assistant Jobs - The Demand ContinuesDental Assistant Jobs - The Demand Continues

One of the fastest growing career opportunities today is dental assistant jobs. There is a high demand for these jobs and that demand is expected to increase over the years. As the population increases, there will be more demand for preventative as well as corrective dental work. Dental assisting is a challenging and rewarding career, demanding versatility and a willingness to assume responsibility for many different tasks. If you are a people person and enjoy working in an environment where you meet new people every day and you perform many tasks, this job may be right for you.

Dental assistant jobs are primarily divided into two major types. The first type is called a basic assistant. This type of job is a general assistant job requiring the completion of a dental course. These courses are short-term and require about one year of course work.

The other type of assistant job is called an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant or EDDA. This type of assistant has a higher skill level in the field of dental assisting and requires further education. This person performs restorative tasks while working under the supervision of a licensed dentist. An EDDA is able to perform more complex work such as removing sutures, making teeth impressions and placing temporary restorations. All advanced work performed by an Expanded Duty Dental Assistant must be supervised by the dentist.

With dental assistant jobs, the amount of training required often depends on the state in which you live. Some states require no formal training whatsoever, you simply train on the job. Other states may require you to meet licensing requirements and even to continue your education after employment in order to keep your certificate active on a yearly basis. Today, there are schools as well as online courses that make it possible for you to gain the skills and knowledge you need to enter the profession in as little as one year. Some schools even offer accelerated programs that allow students to complete their training in an even shorter period of time.

These jobs are highly sought after because their performance requires specialized training. Working with a dentist also increases your social status. These jobs can be performed in a variety of settings. For example, you can work with one dentist or a group of dentists in a dental practice. You can work for a specialist who focuses on pediatrics, orthodontics, endodontics , or some other special area of dentistry. You can also perform as a dental instructor or sales representative for dental products or even as a dental office manager.

To assist you in finding the best jobs, many schools have a placement service program. Even if your school does not have such a program, there are plenty of dental assistant jobs in the market offering a good salary. The average salary of a dental assistant is $16 per hour. Creating a shortlist of jobs and scheduling job interviews can be done easily by utilizing the internet.
