Indian Railway Satisfies All Your NeedsIndian Railway Satisfies All Your Needs

India is a land with different cultures and customs and a variety of dishes unique to every state. Still India is united in its diversity. Indian Railway plays a major role in binding together various parts of India. Being a subsidiary of the Railway ministry, it is a full-fledged and established network running along the length and breadth of India connecting different states and people. Since its inception in 1853, people have taken it to their hearts and still it is a favorite with the Indians. Trains offer more than space than any other vehicles. Passengers can move around meeting new people and talk to those who are interesting. There are washrooms to refresh and if you are hungry you can order some food and beverages.

Indian Railways offers a livelihood to more than 1.4 millions of people and is the fourth largest rail networks in the world, with Russia, China and USA above it. Both long distance and suburban rail systems are operated by Indian Railways. In the long distance trains, which require overnight travel, berths are provided on which passengers can sleep comfortably at night.

Indian Railways has its own locomotive and coach production centers where locomotives, coaches and other railway equipment are manufactured. There are four gauge systems on which the trains run in India. They are the broad, meter, standard and narrow gauges, of which the most commonly used is broad gauge. Meter gauges are mainly used in regions of less traffic and narrow gauges in hilly areas and private railways. Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan are linked by rails to India and links to Myanmar and Bhutan are under construction.

During the first few decades the trains were run by steam engines, which produced a lot of smoke and pollution. Now they are completely stopped except in Nilgiris, where it is a source of tourist attraction. The diesel and electric engines have replaced the steam engines now, which produce less smoke and are more environmental friendly.

A large variety of goods are transported by the railway by special goods trains. There are also provision for transport of pets and domestic animals by trains. The rail system in India has undergone immense changes during the years to make it acceptable to the customers. The old and outdated systems have made a way to the latest and modern technology making every operation easy and fast. The official website of the railways now allows checking of train availability, seat availability, booking of tickets, checking the PNR status of the tickets and cancellation of tickets very easy in a few seconds.

With high speed trains on their way to be launched, Indian Railway is on its growth and development. Customer satisfaction is its top priority, which it has achieved admirably.
