Everyday hundreds of people choose to source online to develop an internet home based business but only a small percentage will end up having one that succeeds. If you want to make sure that the online business you set up succeeds then you need to keep the following rules in mind.

Rule 1 - Keep Website Design Simple

Quite a few people when choosing to set up an online business tend to want a website that looks cool or stands out from the rest. They do this through adding flash animation or sounds in the background or through adding lots of large graphics to it. Instead what you should be doing is making sure that your website has been designed in such a way that visitors can navigate their way around it easily. Plus make sure that the content on it is easy to read the best option is to use dark text on a light background.

Rule 2 - Respond To Visitors Promptly

As soon as a visitor (potential customer) emails you or completes your contact form make sure that you get back to them as soon as you can. We all take note of how long it takes someone online to get back to us. Even when on holiday either get someone you trust to answer any emails or make sure that you take your laptop or tablet with you so you can answer them yourself.

There is far too much competition out there these days for you to let any potential customers fall through the cracks, simply because you couldn't be bothered to follow up on something.

Rule 3 - Keep Visitors Engaged

If you are able to turn visitors to your site into ones that actively participate in it then of course your buildup a good relationship with them. This will help you to earn their trust which in turn could convert into them buying from you. The best way of getting visitors to become engaged with you is through setting up a blog where they can leave comments if they wish.

The other way of course of ensuring that you keep visitors to your site engaged is through using social media networks like Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. If you intend to set up such make sure that you include a button that allows them to immediately like, link or follow you on the social media networks you have chosen to use.

Rule 4 - Provide Visitors With Reasons To Return

By getting visitors to keep coming back you are increasing the chances that these people will eventually buy something through your online business. For example why not write an article about something specific then at the end tell your readers that there will be a follow up to it the following month. If you are going to go down this route make sure that you choose a subject that these people want to know about. In fact adding good quality content regularly to your blog or site is a great way to get visitors to keep returning to you.
