How FSH Level Affects Infertility In A WomanHow FSH Level Affects Infertility In A Woman

High FSH level is a common infertility issue in women. FSH, which is an abbreviation for follicle stimulating hormone is released from the pituitary gland and is responsible for the maturity of a women’s egg for reproduction. Follicle stimulating hormone levels are also an indication of the health of ovarian reserve in a woman. The recommended level of FSH in your body would depend upon your age. The higher the level of FSH, the more unfavorable it becomes to conceive a child. For women trying to get pregnant after a certain age, FSH become a key factor and many doctors recommend blood tests to check the FSH levels before trying to get pregnant.

Follicle stimulating hormones naturally increase in the body as a woman grows older. Hence having high levels of FSH is not necessary an adverse health condition by itself. However, an abnormally higher FSH would result in lower quality eggs and a lower ovarian reserve, both of which are required for healthy pregnancy. In fact women with low ovarian reserve are less likely to benefit even from IVF – In Vitro Fertilization techniques.

Some doctors use FSH level tests to find out about presence of other health conditions that cause infertility. Some of these conditions include PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), presence of cysts, and abnormality in menstrual cycle including excessive bleeding amongst others. Apart from infertility, high levels of follicle stimulating hormone in bloodstream could also mean more serious issues like tumor in the pituitary gland.

For women trying to conceive a child, follicle stimulating hormone level tests are usually recommended. Just in case you are diagnosed with excessive levels of FSH, then the next step should be to understand why that is the case. Simply trying to get the FSH level down may not help alone. It is always advisable to know the root cause of the problem and then treat the condition accordingly. The good news when it comes to follicle stimulating hormone levels is that it is mainly an indicator of your chances of getting pregnant. It does not mean total infertility without the possibility of conception. There are several cases of women with high FSH going through normal healthy pregnancies.

It is beneficial to use natural remedies and not heavy doses of medication to regulate the FSH in the body. Natural remedies would typically consist of special herbs found in nature that do not have any side-effects on the reproductive system. For women that have already crossed a certain age, monitoring FSH and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is highly recommended.

Of course it should also be noted that follicle stimulating hormone levels do not just affect women. Men with high levels of follicle stimulating hormone in the body could also experience infertility issues. High FSH in men can also mean underdeveloped testicles affecting their ability to enter parenthood. This is the reason why some doctors prefer both couples to go through the FSH level tests to ensure that neither the woman or the man in the relationship have infertility issues.
