The Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel isn’t exactly a tunnel; in fact, it was a failed attempt at digging a tunnel that has made this place famous. The State of South Carolina spent more than a million dollars during the pre-civil war days to find an easier and accessible route to the Ohio River Valley from Charleston. It was also used by the Clemson A&M College Dairy Department to manufacture Clemson blue cheese.

Spending a Weekend in Lake Jocassee:

This 9,000-acre lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Oconee County. Lake Jocassee is a reservoir operated by Duke Power and is popular among tourists who prefer to book a villa for a quiet weekend stay. If you’re in the mood for a stroll, you can walk around the beautiful Oconee Bell trail – a mile long trail that follows the rare Oconee Bell wildflower. Or, go for a boat ride on the lake to catch the Rainbow Trout.
