The Approach To Effective Handling Of Marriage. The Approach To Effective Handling Of Marriage.

The origin of marriage is found in the Bible, but suppose evolution were true for the sake of argument, then marriage would be a completely useless and ridiculous sentiment for numerous reasons. Furthermore, if God's Word was not true (as most others treat it today), then marriage is just some imaginary concept created by man, and the ultimate authority over it would be the government (which is also how most people treat it today).

The origin of marriage is a great debate subject. Many people are wondering how marriage began. There have been studies that claim the existence of marriage 4,350 years ago. Before this time, families were made up of less organized groups consisting of more or less than thirty people. The group consisted of men that shared women. With the introduction of agricultural civilization, the society demanded for stable arrangements. From a Christian perspective, the origin of marriage is to be found in the vox Dei, not the vox populi.

God instituted marriage and God defined marriage. As one of His creation ordinances, marriage so defined is valid for all humanity at all times and in all places. It is not to be casually cast aside or re-defined. God has provided a standard -- one designed to be a blessing to those who adopt it as their own. An important point can be interjected into the lesson on the origin of marriage. Man's best friend is not Fido (or any other substitutions), because in these verses he tells of the creation of Eve, Adam's Suitable Helper. The key to marriage is a true belief and understanding of it.

LOOK TO THE ORIGIN OF MARRIAGE TO UNDERSTAND MARRIAGE.

Looking back to the first wedding as it is recorded in the pages of God's Word we will gain a true understanding as to

I.The purpose for marriage,

II.The nature of marriage, and

III.The approach to marriage.

The New Testament expressly confirms the Genesis account of the origin of marriage.

If Genesis is legend, then so must Jesus' teaching be and also that of Paul. But if their account of the origin of marriage is historical truth, then so must be the Genesis account of the creation of woman and of marriage. And that destroys evolution (theistic or atheistic), as well as the rationale for feminism, homosexuality, and other views that belittle marriage. Beyond the clear teaching of Jesus on divorce is his reference to the origin of marriage, as contained in Genesis 2. Marriage is from God and is of God. Never has it been a product of any institution or even government.

Therefore, like everything else God created, marriage is, not just good, but very good. (Genesis 1:31) Therefore, people entering into marriage are doing something that is very good, and divinely ordained. On the basis of Jesus' teaching, the Church values marriage as that important without substitute or alteration. More recent teaching of the Church even considers marriage a vocation, a specific calling from God, to which couples respond. Just as God puts a call on those who come to minister to and for Him - so He has ordained and called some to minister to and for Him through married life.

Remember Paul`s words about husband and wife; "He says it`s a mystery - for he refers the union (bride and groom) to the example of Christ and the Church". This then stands to qualify a true marriage to be divine organ on earth for the fulfilling godly purposes. I strongly believe that such a marriage is a threat in the face of the evil in our world today. This is the reason why the wars and attacks on Christian marriages world-wide.

Such is the exalted dignity and status of marriage in the eyes of God and the true Church. Jesus and Paul used the canonized writing and teaching of Moses in their teachings on the origin of marriage (Matt. 19 and Ephesians 5). The husband's authority over his wife is not to "lord it over her." This fact is also evident in the origin of marriage. The word In Genesis, carefully chosen by inspiration of the Holy Ghost, is a "helper, "comparable to man not a servant or slave. Adam said this is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh, not something to be misused and mistreated, not just a possession I own, but a very part of me to love and to cherish.

God said it was not good for man to be alone, then He created a woman and established marriage. In the origin of marriage we find the purpose of companionship and the blessing of children. Since the fall into sin the purpose of keeping man and woman from sexual immorality has been added. Look to the origin of marriage to understand the purpose for marriage.

My friend thought for a bit, and concluded that a creative ceremony would find a way to link to that Edenic origin of marriage notwithstanding the absence of sexual complementarity -- would focus on ahavah v'achavah, shalom v'rei'ut without saying that these can only be rooted in the union of a chatan and kallah . Which sounds laudable, but on a mythopoetic level it's still a considerable challenge.

One example may lie in a man's need for assurance as to paternity of his children. The question is? Why is the wedding ring worn on the fourth finger or Why should the wedding ring be worn on the fourth finger? Various cultures have had their own theories on the origin of marriage.
